The benefits of planting trees

Reforesting, turning cities green, has many benefits for the environment and, therefore, for people, especially when the climate becomes hotter. For this, the supervisor of the Peñoles Nursery, Francisco Andrade, comments on some of the most important ones.

In the environment

Trees are recognized for their ability to separate carbon monoxide and provide an essential element for life such as oxygen. This process is known as photosynthesis, and it allows for better quality of the air you breathe.

They also play a role in the ecosystem to attract rain. Andrade explains that this is due to the transpiration of the plants themselves, which are part of the water cycle. In good quantities, this transpiration forms clouds that, in turn, cause rain. This allows, as a whole, to have more pleasant temperatures for all species and to generate water flow.

For the other species

The presence of trees also favors wildlife, an essential part of ecosystems. A trunk can be shelter for species such as squirrels, while its branches are the necessary support for birds to build their nests.

Furthermore, because of their shade, because of how cool they can be, trees also mitigate the heat that animals feel when they seek their shade.

In another benefit, if we talk about flowering plants, they attract pleasant insects such as butterflies, or other species essential for life, such as bees themselves.

Immediate benefits for people

Not only is the environment greatly benefited by the presence of trees. A tree radically changes a property. This goes beyond aesthetics, as they have a noticeable impact on the temperature, which it regulates thanks to its shade and its own humidity.

Donation campaign

With the aim of turning La Laguna green, the Peñoles Nursery has a tree donation campaign.
