Azerbaijan’s national team will not participate in the Sambo World Cup to be held in Yerevan.
Publika.az reports that Yagub Abdullayev, an official of the Azerbaijan Sambo Federation, informed about this.
According to Abdullayev, the main reason for refusing to participate in the competition is the tension between the two countries:
“The treatment of our athletes in other sports competitions hosted by Armenia is known to everyone. This has a negative effect on our athletes as a motivation, and also increases security concerns. Therefore, as a federation, we have decided not to participate in the World Cup that will be held in Yerevan.”
Yagub Abdullayev said that his main goal is to prepare for the European Sambo Championship, which is scheduled to be held in Serbia in May.
“We have a training camp ahead of us. We will go through the preparation process to participate in the European Championship to be held in May. At the moment, as a team, we are focused on this.”
It should be recalled that earlier, the President of the Armenian Sambo Federation, Mikael Ayrapetyan, said that Azerbaijan and Turkey will not participate in the World Cup to be held in Yerevan.
It should be noted that the Sambo World Cup will be held in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, on April 4-5.
