The authorities arrest a popular artist on charges of indecent assault and immorality

A video spread from a wedding showing the popular artist Fatima Trabelsia, known as “The Hummus,” performing a song whose lyrics many considered to encourage dissolution.

The Libyan security authorities arrested the popular artist, Fatima Trabelsia, known as “Al-Hamsa,” after a video clip spread of her performing a song that sparked controversy in the Libyan street, and was described as “immoral and encouraging dissolution.”

The Stability Support Service of the Ministry of the Interior said that the person called “Humsa” was arrested for committing the crime of indecent assault, “out of concern for preserving the good morals that characterize Libyan society,” stressing that it “will stand as an impenetrable barrier and strike with an iron fist anyone who begs for him.” It is a violation of morals and values.”

The agency added, in a statement on Wednesday evening, that it will take the necessary legal measures against this artist, considering that the committed act is legally criminal.

During the past few hours, a widespread wave of anger erupted on social networking sites in Libya, after a video clip was circulated of the artist Fatima Trabelsi, singing at a wedding party and dancing to a song whose lyrics were considered by Libyans to encourage moral decadence, marital infidelity, illicit relationships, and calls for family disintegration. .

Commenting on this, activist Azza Al-Rayes considered that the song’s lyrics are “dangerous, as the artist encourages young teenage girls to commit immorality and promiscuity to a very large extent,” calling for the need to arrest her and hold her accountable.

For his part, activist Reda Qammoudi said in his blog, “This artist should be taken to prison, pay a fine, and stop singing from the Artists Syndicate,” considering that “Libyan art has not reached this degree of decadence.”
