The Assembly analyzes reform of the second paragraph of Article 248 of the Constitution

After the people’s decision was expressed through the elections on February 4, this May 1 the new deputies of the Legislative Assembly each received the seats that they will use during the period 2024-2027.

From there, they will legislate in the best way to be able to seek the benefits intended for the Salvadoran population in general.

The current composition of the plenary session will be with a total of 60 parliamentarians. That is, there will be a reduction of 24 seats, after on June 7 the previous legislature approved this proposal issued by the President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, with 66 votes.

For this new period, the New Ideas party has the majority in the plenary session with 54 deputies; the National Concertation Party (PCN) two; the Christian Democratic Party (PDC) one; ARENA has two; while the party Let’s go with one.

The Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of this State Body is formed seeking the participation of all parliamentary groups, based on the criteria of plurality and proportionality, in accordance with the Protocol of Understanding.

In order to determine who would constitute it, the Installation Commission was created, this protected under articles 121, 122, 123 and 124 of the Constitution of the Republic and articles 6 and 7 of the Internal Regulations of the Legislative Assembly (RIAL).

After 57 votes, the working group was made up of representative Suecy Callejas, who was elected as director; William Soriano, who was part of the team as first secretary; while Mauricio Ortiz, as second secretary.

After various deliberations and with 58 votes in favor, the new Board of Directors will be made up of six members:

President of the Legislative body: Ernesto Castro Aldana (New Ideas)

First Vice President: Suecy Callejas Estrada (New Ideas)

Second vice presidency: Rodrigo Ayala (New Ideas)

First secretary: Elisa Rosales (New Ideas)

Second secretary: Reynaldo Cardoza (from May 1, 2024 to October 31, 2025) and Serafín Orantes (from November 1, 2025 to April 30, 2027) (both from the PDC)

Third secretariat: Reynaldo Carballo Carballo (PDC)

The 60 elected deputies

The Salvadoran population elected its leaders in the Legislative Assembly, through their votes. Therefore, for 2024-2027 this State Body will be integrated as follows:
