American basketball player Austin Hollins has signed a contract with Greek League club Athens AEK until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old defender became a free agent a few days after the Kaunas club “Zalgiris”, represented by Rolanda Schmidt, decided not to continue cooperation with Hollins. In early December he signed a three-week trial contract with the Kaunas club, which was extended for another two weeks after the replacement of the “Žalgiris” coach. After the test, Hollins did not get a full contract, leaving the Lithuanian team.

Hollins managed to play eight Euroleague games at Zalgiris, where he averaged 3.9 points and 1.0 rebounds in 12 minutes. In three games of the Lithuanian championship, he averaged 6.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists.

The American’s new club, AEK, plays not only in the Greek league, where it ranks sixth in the 12-team competition with a 6-8 record, but also in the FIBA Champions League, where it reached the round of 16. It should be said that Hollins could no longer play for another Euroleague club this season due to the tournament rules, as he represented the “Žalgiris” team after the end of the “player transfer window”.

Hollins played for Maccabi Tel Aviv last season, but underwent knee surgery in January and missed the rest of the season. In the summer the Israeli club broke the contract. Previously, the American also represented St. Petersburg “Zenit” and Belgrade “Crvena Zvezda” in the Euroleague.
