The 400 Mini, the miniature reproduction of the Atari 400, has been announced

PLAION and Retro Games yesterday announced THE400 Mini, a miniature reproduction of the first Atari home computer launched in 1979. 45 years later, a miniature version of this computer will be launched on March 28, costing 119.99 euros.

The computer will have pre-installed some video games of the time and dimensions smaller than the original, reduced by 50%. This computer’s return also includes THECXSTICK, an improved and updated recreation of Atari’s iconic CX40 joystick, with seven additional function buttons and USB connectivity.

Users will be able to load their games via USB memory compatible with both ROM cartridges, discs and cassettes, as well as being able to rewind time, save games and enjoy the retro show via HDMI.

“We have extensive experience creating reinvented home computers and hope that THE400 Mini will become an important part of this legacy. The original home computer was a video game hero for many and it is important for us to recreate the machines that helped define the video game industry and therefore deserve to be preserved. We believe that collectors and fans of retro games will appreciate what we have done and will enjoy discovering the occasional Easter egg as they take a journey through the games of the 70s and 80s,” said Paul Andrews, CEO of Retro Games Ltd.

“We are delighted to work with Retro Games Ltd. to bring back to life an iconic machine that meant so much to so many. Precious memories of the past should be treated with respect, care and attention: THE400 Mini has been designed to preserve their look and feel of the original home computer, while benefiting from robust design, manufacturing and an obsession with detail,” said Stuart Chiplin, head of corporate ratings at PLAION.
