Standard has reached an agreement with Ivan Leko (45) to become the new manager. A 2.5-year contract is ready for the Croatian. He will succeed the fired Carl Hoefkens.

The Rouches wanted to appoint someone who had experience and was free, and this is the case of Leko. As a coach, he has already become champion of Club Brugge (2018) and won the cup with Antwerp (2020). But at the end of October the Croatian was fired in his home country at Hajduk in Split.

Standard management reached an agreement with Leko on Wednesday for a 2.5-year contract. He has been in Croatia in recent days and will travel to Belgium to sign at any moment. The intention is for Leko to leave for the internship on Saturday morning towards Marbella, Spain.

The new T1 may have to do without Steven Alzate (25) in the coming months. The English club Brighton, which rents him, is considering the possibility of selling the Colombian midfielder this month, because his contract expires in June and he will be able to leave for free. He therefore offers it here and there. Alzate missed the last few games due to injury and is still out for a few weeks, now he is also in England to recover.
