In the Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan, a 15-year-old girl was married, despite the warning of the authorities, Liter.kz reports.
According to the publication Podrobno.uzthe incident occurred in the Mahalla “Ozod” of the Denau district.
According to the National Agency for Social Protection, in July 2025, the elder Mahall and social workers learned about the intention of parents to organize a wedding. They conducted an audit, emphasized that it was illegal to marry a child, and made an official warning.
Despite this, on August 10, 2025, the wedding ceremony took place. The man who organized the wedding was fined for violation of the law.
At this time, the girl continues to study at the Professional Technical School of the Denau region. Its rights and educational process are under the constant control of the relevant authorities.
The agency emphasized that the protection of children’s rights remains a priority, and such cases are unacceptable.
According to 2024, the lowest level of early marriages was noted in Uzbekistan – 3.4 %. Among the seven countries of Eurasia, the greatest indicators were recorded in Georgia and Kyrgyzstan.
It is also noted that in 2020 in the republic an increase in cases of early genera among girls aged 13-14 was noted. About half of schoolgirls who suffered an early pregnancy and early births grew in a family without a mother or father.
