The 140th anniversary of Uzeyir Hajibeyli, the founder of the national music of Azerbaijan, the author of the first opera in the East and the composer of the National Anthem of Azerbaijan, was celebrated with a concert program at the headquarters of UNESCO.
Publika.az informs that the event was organized by the joint initiative of the Permanent Representation of Azerbaijan to UNESCO and the France-Azerbaijan Dialogue Association.
Elman Abdullayev, Permanent Representative to UNESCO, made a speech and said that the celebration of Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s 140th anniversary shows respect for the composer’s life and work. It also shows the unifying power of music, the establishment of dialogue between cultures and the appreciation of universal values. Permanent representative Uzeyir Hajibeyli spoke about the exceptional role he played in the formation of the national musical identity of Azerbaijan.
“Leyli and Majnun”, the first opera in the East in 1908, was not only a musical work. It was a real cultural revolution. Hajibeyli built a musical bridge between the East and the West by combining the centuries-old tradition of Azerbaijani mugham with the classical forms of Western music.
The power of his works lies in this synthesis – a deep commitment to the national heritage, and at the same time a clear message to humanity. Hajibeyli’s music reflects the spirit, literature and history of the Azerbaijani people and appeals to all mankind. His legacy is fully compatible with the mission of UNESCO,” the ambassador informed.
President of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, doctor of philological sciences, professor Isa Habibeyli Ü. Hajabeyli talked about his creativity.
It was reported that Ü. Hajabeyli’s works have crossed the borders of Azerbaijan and have been successfully exhibited on world stages and have become a cultural bridge between nations.
He was not only a composer, but also an educator, educator and public figure. Azerbaijan State Conservatory – Baku Academy of Music, which was founded on his initiative, trained many musicians.
