75 eventful years of ASVÖ – General Sports Association of Austria
The ASVÖ is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. The sports umbrella organization was founded in 1949 as a non-partisan and independent sports organization so that people who are active in sports could pursue their passions outside of party political affiliations. This basic idea has been pursued to this day and is also worthwhile in the anniversary year – this is shown by a look at the membership numbers, which make it the largest umbrella organization with currently 5,480 member clubs in more than 120 sports. It thus secures the basis for strong popular and health sports as well as successful top-level sport in Austria. The constant focus of the association’s work is the support of the clubs. The social changes are also reflected in club life – from sustainability to digitization to streamlining administrative processes, the ASVÖ supports its clubs.
