Michael Geerts (ATP 291), 28 years old, had managed to exit the qualifications, but was blocked at the beginning of the final draw by the Spaniard Pedro Martinez (N.2), 26 years old, 109th in the ATP. The match ended after two tie-breaks with scores of 7-6 (7/3) and 7-6 (7/5) after two hours and 34 minutes of play.
The Antwerp player, however, remains in Tenerife for a while longer where he will have to play doubles alongside the Spaniard Sergio Martos Gornes. The two will face the third seed of the tournament formed by the Czech Roman Jebavy and the Austrian Philipp Oswald in the first round.
Michael Geerts will then go to the BW Open, the Challenger tournament in Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve.
