Temporary rains will affect Central America this week

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) reported that the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) continues on the coasts of Central America and the formation of a large area of ​​low pressure or depression field is expected, which will maintain rains and storms in the next days. These rains and storms will be persistent and intermittent, temporary.

According to the MARN report, the ITCZ ​​will remain in front of and on the coast of El Salvador, providing humidity, and in combination with the depression field, it will maintain rain for the rest of the week, which will extend to the coastal sector, the volcanic mountain range and the northern fringe.

The Civil Protection Directorate issued a warning due to the rains generated by the proximity of the ITCZ ​​and the passage of a tropical wave nationwide. Likewise, the MARN has issued warnings about flooding, landslides and flash floods on the country’s roads. For example, there is a high probability of landslides and rock falls occurring in Jucuarán; There is also a high probability of flooding in the Metropolitan Area of ​​San Salvador, La Libertad, Santiago Nonualco, San Luis La Herradura, San Vicente, Puerto El Triunfo, Jiquilisco, Concepción Batres and Usulután.

Today the sky will remain cloudy throughout the day, and during the morning some rain is expected to develop in the surroundings of the Bálsamo mountain range, the Jucuarán and Tecapa-Chinameca mountains, and north of Morazán. In the afternoon and evening, rain and storms will continue intermittently over the northern mountainous area and coastal area.

Tomorrow morning, rain and storms are expected to develop in the coastal and mountain range areas of Bálsamo, Apaneca-Ilamatepec, Bálsamo and the Tecapa-Chinameca mountains. This period of rain could extend into the morning hours, including the Metropolitan Area of ​​San Salvador Salvador. In the afternoon and evening the sky will continue to be cloudy throughout the country, with a greater probability of rain and storms in the center and west of Salvadoran territory.

On Monday night, two people were evacuated by firefighters, after being trapped in their house as a result of a river overflowing, in the Primavera neighborhood, Chalatenango. The people are stable and out of danger. In addition, municipal Civil Protection preventively evacuated a family at risk on the island of Meanguera del Golfo, in La Unión Sur. For its part, the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) evacuated landslides on the highway to the port of La Libertad, Chalatenango, among others.

Affectations in Central America

In Costa Rica, the National Emergency Commission decreed an orange alert, which is the third of four categories, in the Pacific and the Central Valley due to the arrival of tropical waves tomorrow and Friday. On Saturday, storms with gusts of wind and hail were recorded in the city of Cartago, and that day alone there were more than 100 reports such as flooding of homes in different points, power outages, fallen fences, the detachment of the roof of the Fello Meza stadium, among others.

In Guatemala, the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction and relief bodies yesterday reported four damaged homes, 26 people affected, 45 homes at risk and five families who self-evacuated due to the rains.

In Honduras, the National Risk and Contingency Management Secretariat reported that, due to the rains, there is a threat of landslides in some sectors of Copán, Santa Bárbara, south of Lempira, Choluteca hills and Valle.
