Tempi / Maria Karystianou takes the signatures to the Parliament – ​​Sharp comment about Karamanlis

Over 663,000 citizens have so far signed the Tempe Victims’ Relatives Association 2023 petition with a request to start the procedures for the revision of the Constitution, the activation of the Ministerial Liability Act as well as the abolition of parliamentary immunity when criminal liability of political figures arises.

At the same time with a post, the president of the Association, Maria Karystianoudoes sharp comment against the former Minister of Transport, Costas Karamanlison the occasion of the suggestions he made during his testimony at the Examination about how the relatives of the victims should mournshamefully saying neither a little, nor much that pain must be mute.

“Because some people think it is futile to fight for your rights…. Because they believe that we should suffer silently…. Art. 73 par. 6 gives the citizen the right to submit a proposal to amend the law. A similar law exists in all European countries”, says Maria Karystianou in her post.

The president of the Association for Tempi, refers to article 73, paragraph 6 of the Constitution which provides the following:

«With the signature of five hundred thousand citizens who have the right to vote, up to two legislative proposals per parliamentary term can be submitted to the Parliament, which, by decision of its President, are referred to the relevant parliamentary committee for processing and are then compulsorily introduced for discussion and voting in the Plenary of the House. The proposed laws of the previous paragraph cannot concern fiscal, foreign policy and national defense issues. The law defines the terms and conditions of application of this paragraph”.

As Maria Karystianou reports “the signatures will be sent to the prosecutor who must immediately give them to the Parliament for voting. In a democratic country, Parliament is obliged to respect the wishes of the citizens. The Parliament is obliged to function in accordance with the law and democratic institutions. We shout that there is NO rule of law. So the request will be clear and the treatment of this resolution will be very interesting and for us it will be very important the day when our representatives will have such a strong movement of society in their hands”.

Because some underestimate the power of society…
Because some people think it is futile to fight for your rights….
Because they believe that we should suffer silently….
Art. 73 par. 6 gives the citizen the RIGHT to submit a proposal to amend the law. A similar law exists in all European countries.
But only in Greece the required number of signatures reaches the huge total of 500,000…..
But we overcame this “obstacle” and continue….
Therefore, according to the Law (art. 73, Par. 6), the signatures will be sent to the prosecutor who MUST immediately give them to the Parliament for a vote.
In a democratic country, Parliament is obliged to RESPECT the wishes of the citizens. The Parliament is obliged to function in accordance with the law and democratic institutions. We shout that there is NO rule of law. So the request will be clear and the treatment of this resolution very interesting and for us the day when our representatives will have such a strong movement of society in their hands will be very important.
In any case, such a resolution is to our advantage. We need it as a force and it will be used in the Human Rights Court.
So we’re going strong to reach the biggest set of signatures we could ever imagine!!!!
