31-year-old computer science teacher Alexey Grigorik accidentally broke the spine of a seventh-grader while trying to stop him from running through the corridors of the St. Petersburg Lyceum, Liter.kz reports with reference to the Telegram channel SHOT.
The teacher faces arrest for six months. A criminal case has been opened.
According to SHOT, the incident occurred at Lyceum No. 470 back in November 2023. According to computer science teacher Alexey Grigorik, a seventh-grader rushed along the school corridor during recess and ignored the comments of other teachers. Then he shouted to the child, “Stop!” and put his hand forward, trying to stop him. The boy did not brake, hit his hand at speed and fell unsuccessfully on his back.
At the hospital, the child was diagnosed with a compression fracture of two thoracic vertebrae. According to the teacher, after the tragic incident, the child’s father, lawyer Bakhriddin S., billed him for two million rubles: one million for treatment and another one for the “moral suffering of the parents.” The teacher didn’t have that kind of money.
First, a case was opened under the article “Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm.” But the day before they retrained. Now the article is more lenient: “Causing grievous bodily harm through negligence.”
For now, Alexey was released on an obligation to appear. He taught at school for nine years and assures that he has never experienced aggression towards children, and he had never even interacted with the injured boy before, since he did not teach in his class.
The seventh grader has already returned to classes.
Earlier it became known that in Pavlodar a teacher was fired for using psychotropic substances. And in a Kostanay school there was a conflict between a student and a young trainee.
