The Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration announced, in a communication addressed to all economic operators and those declared to customs, that “starting Monday, April 15, a new work organization will be adopted aimed at ensuring the continuity of customs services at the Tangier Med Port.”

The communication explained that “this measure, which was taken in consultation with the port authorities and the private sector, comes in line with the policy of keeping pace with contracting adopted by the Customs Administration, and aims to enhance the smoothness of customs clearance processes for goods and reduce their transit times through customs, with the aim of supporting the competitiveness of exporting companies, as well as actors in The field of international transportation of goods.

The Customs and Indirect Taxes Department confirmed that, “starting from the aforementioned date, it will be possible to complete all customs operations at Tangier Med Port at any time of the day, all days of the week.”

In order to make this approved procedure for the benefit of companies a success, the Customs Administration said that it “has taken all necessary measures to mobilize and strengthen the numbers of its employees within the fold of this port, while adapting its work organization, in response to the requirements of the new situation of work flow.”

The communication stated, “The Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration takes this opportunity to call on all economic actors to organize themselves in accordance with these new procedures, so that the efforts made by everyone bear fruit.”

Professionals in the international transport sector of goods and Moroccan exporters abroad threatened to go on strike in the coming days and paralyze the Tangier Med Port, due to what they considered “the continued slowness of customs procedures,” forcing truck drivers “to wait long periods of time in order to cross the import and export zone.” According to them, this entails negative effects on the competitiveness of the Moroccan product and on the port as a whole.
