TRIBUNJABAR.ID, BANDUNG – There are always astronomical phenomena that happen and are interesting to observe, especially certain phenomena.
The researcher of the space research center, aeronautics and space research organization BRIN, Farahhati Mumtangana, explained in detail the astronomical phenomena that will occur in 2024.
According to him, on January 3, for example, a phenomenon occurred in which the earth reached perihelion, which is the closest point the earth has to the sun.
Also, on January 11th and 12th the new moon occurs, the phenomenon of Mercury at maximum western elongation where the elongation of the planet is the angle between the sun and the planet with the earth as the reference point so this is the best time to see planet Mercury.
“There are different dates for the maximum western elongation events of Mercury, such as May 9, September 5 and December 25. Meanwhile, the maximum eastern elongation of Mercury is March 24, July 22 and November 16,” he said in the his statement, Sunday (11/14/2024).
He also added that in February 2024 there will only be the phenomenon of new moon and full moon on February 12.
Then, in March there is the new moon on March 10 and the full moon on March 25, and on March 20 there is an equinoctial phenomenon where the sun will shine right on the equator and the amount of day and night is almost the same everywhere. of the world, so the planet Mercury reaches its maximum eastern elongation on March 24.
“To observe the phenomena it is necessary to also pay attention to the presentation of the lunar illumination in relation to the moon phases.”
“The new moon is better to observe than the full moon because the light is too bright, eclipsing other objects in the sky,” he said.
Farah said the moon phase calendar can be obtained from various sources and applications moon phaseSoftware stellar.
Three phenomena will occur during 2024 supermoonnamely September 18th, October 17th and November 15th.
Then there will be a phenomenon blue Moonthat is, the fourth full moon (this phenomenon is extra because usually there are only 3 full moons in a season) which occurred on August 19th.
“In 2024 there will be an eclipse phenomenon, but unfortunately it will not cross Indonesian territory. “However, it can be considered if you want to plan a tour or expedition to chase the eclipse,” Farah said.
