In Kampala, Uganda, the stage was dominated by Malagasy table tennis players during the final of the East African Singles Championship last Thursday. Hanitra Karen Raharimanana and Fabio Rakotoarimanana brilliantly won the East African champion titles, both for men and women. In a 100% Malagasy men’s final, Fabio Rakotoarimanana faced his compatriot Antoine Razafinarivo in a thrilling duel. After an intense battle, Fabio finally won in four sets to one (12/14, 11/5, 2/11, 10/12, 12/14), thus securing the gold medal. Despite his defeat, Antoine won the silver medal, while third place went to Ugandan Samuel Ankunda. On the women’s side, Hanitra Karen Raharimanana also dominated the competition. In an easy final, she beat Ugandan Judith Nangonzi in four sets to one (9/11, 11/7, 11/6, 11/5, 12/10), thus winning the gold medal. Despite a lost first set, Hanitra was able to reverse the trend and won convincingly in the next four sets. These victories confirm the domination of Malagasy table tennis players in the East African region and demonstrate their exceptional talent on the international scene.
