Federal deputy Tabata Amaral (PSB-SP) praised, on social media, the meeting with Luiza Erundina, federal deputy of the PSOL who was Guilherme Boulos’s (PSOL-SP) deputy in the 2020 municipal elections and who criticizes Marta Suplicy, who is organizing to join the PT and take second place this year together with Boulos in the race for mayor of São Paulo.
Tabata, a pre-candidate for mayor of the capital São Paulo, said she had “a very stimulating conversation with Erundina” and praised her “beautiful path in public life”.
“We talk about our fight for quality education, as well as our work for women’s rights. It is always a joy to learn from such experienced women,” she wrote in a publication this Thursday (18).
In a Datafolha poll carried out in August, Tabata was in third place, with 11% of voting intentions for the office of mayor, behind Boulos, with 32%, and Nunes, with 24%.
Tabata tries to differentiate himself from Boulos, stating that the candidate has difficulties in dialogue – an image that the psolist wants to deconstruct -, while she would be open to dialogue with politicians of the right and left. You have already said that the psoloist’s biggest problem is the “lack of seriousness and maturity”.
Boulos’s appearance of radicalism and lack of enthusiasm for dialogue is exploited by other pre-candidates, such as the current mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB), who accuses the psolist of being an extremist.
To strengthen his candidacy, Tabata seeks to attract to the post of deputy the presenter José Luiz Datena, whose affiliation to the PSB took place in December 2023 in a ceremony at which the deputy was present.
Having worked in parliament since 2019, she, in turn, faces an image of inexperienced and focuses on issues such as education and women’s rights. In this year’s dispute you are trying to intertwine these claims with daily issues of the city, such as the Enel blackout and the work carried out by the current government.
Erundina, who four years ago was Boulos’ vice-presidential candidate, publicly addressed some criticisms to Marta.
When she ran for mayor of São Paulo in 2016, Erundina called Marta a “traitor of the people.” That year Marta was a pre-candidate for the PMDB. You started to suffer resistance from the left when you started criticizing the PT and also because you were in favor of the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff (PT).
The accusation of treason was repeated in 2020, when Marta supported the re-election of Bruno Covas (PSDB). That same year, Erundina accused Marta of reducing the education budget during her tenure as mayor of São Paulo, from 2001 to 2004. Marta responded to Erundina by calling her “twice disloyal”.
The psolist MP, who was mayor of the capital São Paulo from 1989 to 1992, also declared, in 2023, that she had difficulty understanding Lula’s choice to bring Marta to the PT as Boulos’ deputy.
The idea of nominating Marta for deputy mayor had the direct participation of the president, as part of an agreement between PT and PSOL according to which PT members would not have their own candidate for mayor of São Paulo in the 2024 elections. On the other hand part, Guilherme Boulos did not present himself to the government of São Paulo in 2022 to strengthen the campaign of Fernando Haddad (PT).
