T20 World Cup: Kuldeep Yadav will be India’s go-to spinner in Super 8s

T20 World Cup: Former cricketer Piyush Chawla believes that wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav will be India’s preferred specialist spinner when they take part in the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup to be held in the Caribbean. India defeated Ireland, Pakistan and the United States in three tough batting encounters at the Nassau County Stadium in New York. They will now face Canada in their final group stage encounter in Lauderhill, Florida before the Super Eight stage. Chawla said that, although the conditions in New York were not conducive for spin bowling, the Indian spinners will now compete in the event. India have four spin bowling options: Kuldeep, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja. “The New York pitch was very risky and the way India performed on that pitch and won three out of three games, so there are great opportunities to move forward,” Chawla told the media on the sidelines of the IISM convocation ceremony in Mumbai on Thursday. “There wasn’t that much need for spinners in New York but after entering the second stage of the Super Eights, spinners have played a big role in the West Indies,” he said.

Chawla picked Kuldeep as his first choice, while Chahal picked him as his second choice for the Indian Premier League (IPL) as one of the most successful bowlers. “Honestly, only one will play, and I think Kuldeep will be the first choice because of what he has done in the last one and a half year. You have Axar and Jadeja who can give you depth in batting, so I think Kuldeep will get a chance,” he said.
