T20 World Cup: Irfan Pathan lauds Afghanistan for qualifying for Super 8s

T20 World Cup: Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan lauded the growth of the Afghanistan team in ICC tournaments. The Rashid Khan-led side has reached the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024. The Rashid-led side have been dominating right from their first match. They won against Uganda by a margin of 125 runs and followed it up with an 84-run win against New Zealand. Afghanistan sealed their place in the Super 8s with a 7-wicket win over Papua New Guinea. Interestingly, Afghanistan ended New Zealand’s campaign and knocked them out of the tournament early.

Pathan wrote on ‘X’, “Apart from India’s performance, the most encouraging thing in this World Cup is the growth of Afghanistan cricket. Their bowlers have always had special skills and now their batsmen are also coming up big. Best of luck to them in the Super 8s!” Afghanistan’s Heroes in T20 World Cup Afghanistan currently top the table in Group C with 6 points and a net-run-rate of +4.230. Fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi has been in great form for Afghanistan, taking 12 wickets in 3 matches. He is also the highest wicket-taker in the tournament and has also won 2 Player of the Match awards. In the batting department, Rahmanullah Gurbaz has an average of 55.67 and has scored 162 runs in 112 overs.

He has played an important role in giving the team a great start. He has so far Tournament Ahead of the Super 8 matches, Afghanistan will face hosts West Indies in St Lucia on Tuesday, June 18. In the Super 8 stage, Afghanistan will face India, Australia and the other qualifying team from Group D, which could potentially be Bangladesh.
