Sylhet’s Kanai Ghat died in a thunderstorm by a passenger boat. The incident took place on Saturday (May 7) at around 1:30 pm in the Surma river in the village of Chapnagar. Two more passengers were injured in the attack.
The deceased was identified as Tajul Islam (1), son of the deceased Habibur Rahman of North Lakshmipprasad Nayagram village of West UP.
The injured were Mohammad Ali and Shamim Ahmed. They are resident of North Lakshmiprasad Kukubari village of the upazila.
Locals said that Tajul was going to the Lovachara Garden-Bagicha Ghat with an engine-powered boat from Khayaghat of Surma river on Saturday afternoon. When the Surma river reached the Khayaghat area of the river, the thunderstorm suddenly fell on his boat. Tajul sailed from the boat and fell into the river. Two passengers of the boat were injured. They were treated at the Upazila Health Complex.
Meanwhile, when the Tajul was submerged in the river, many locals failed to search. Later, around 8 pm, when people were taken to Kanighat Upazila Health Complex, the doctor declared him dead when he was taken to the Kanighat Upazila Health Complex.
The deceased’s younger brother Nazmul Islam said Tajul Islam had a 3 -year -old daughter. He used to make a living by making his own engine -powered boats. He has a lot of involvement with sports in the area.
Acting Officer (OC) Abdul Awal of Kanighat Police Station said that a passenger boat named Tajul Islam had died in a thunderstorm. His body will be handed over to the family through legal process.
