Surprise to the CDA for the “shame” of the owners by the municipality

The CDA questions why the municipality intends to publish the names of owners who violate the rules. Party representative Laurens Lochtenberg talks about ‘shaman‘.

The measure is contained in the municipal document Policy regulation on administrative sanctions for good management, which city councilors could discuss next Wednesday at Stopera. The document describes how the council wants to ensure that landlords and letting agents comply with the rules.

Public

In case of violations, an “escalation ladder” is foreseen. The municipality will first enter into negotiations with the owner in question. If this does not work, a so-called punishable measure is issued and then an administrative fine, according to which “the data of the violator will also be made public.”

“Moreover, even then the criminal had been pointed out several times that he was behaving contrary to laws and regulations and had not adjusted his behavior”, the mayor and councilors write in the piece. Violations include, for example, “unjustified discrimination,” intimidating tenants, and requiring payment of a security deposit greater than double the base rent.

“If you drive twice too fast, you will have no shame.”

Laurens Lochtenberg, CEO

says Lochtenberg on Twitter tonight the question is whether the publication of the data is proportionate. “If you drive too fast twice, you still won’t win geshamed“, writes the CDA member. His message was shared by Stichting Erfpachters Belang Amsterdam (SEBA), which advocates for the interests of Amsterdam homeowners who pay ground rent.

No mercy

GroenLinks councilor Imane Nadif disagrees with Lochtenberg. “It’s truly amazing how the CDA shows no mercy when it comes to asylum, but owners of moldy homes do, for example,” she tweets.

The fact that the municipality can confront the owners is the result of outgoing minister De Jonge’s law on good land tenure (Public Housing and Spatial Planning). The law came into force this summer and municipalities have been given “an important role in enforcing it”.
