Surgical masks do not prevent the spread of Covid-19

The lack of information makes many Angolan citizens and others believe that surgical masks serve to prevent the spread or contamination of the virus, from one individual to another.

According to the Folha de São Paulo website, the executive director of the WHO (World Health Organization) emergency health program, Michael J. Ryan, made it known that masks only serve to prevent someone with the disease from passing it on to others. , and should not be used by people without Covid-19.

“The most important things everyone can do are wash their hands, keep them away from their face, and practice other hygiene practices.”

According to the WHO, there is a greater possibility of becoming infected or becoming infected by touching contaminated surfaces than through airborne droplets. Because air can also pass through the edges of masks, especially surgical masks, and contamination does not occur through the air.

Masks serve to prevent proliferation, since the diameter of the cell ranges from 400 to 500 microns, which is why it prevents it from passing through any type of mask.

For better prevention, the Angolan Ministry of Health advises taking preventive measures such as frequently washing your hands for at least 20 to 30 seconds, properly disposing of gloves and other disposable hospital materials, avoiding crowded spaces and contact with animals that may be possible carriers of Covid-19. As for the use of alcohol gel, this measure is quite important, as the virus lives on the hands for around 10 minutes.
