Super Typhoon Yagi Causes Deaths, Destruction in Vietnam

Super Typhoon Yagi reached Vietnam after China, causing serious destruction and casualties, Liter.kz reports with reference to Euronews.

According to the newspaper, a super typhoon hit Vietnam on Saturday, with wind gusts exceeding 150 km/h. Authorities closed four airports, including Hanoi’s main airport, and evacuated people from the most vulnerable areas prone to flooding and landslides.

“The provinces of Hai Phong and Quang Ninh were particularly hard hit. According to the latest reports, at least four people were killed in the disaster, including a woman who died under a fallen tree in Hanoi and a man in Hai Duong Province, and more than 78 people were injured. In Hai Phong, power poles were destroyed and more than 20 trees were torn out. In Quang Ninh Province, the typhoon tore off the roofs of dozens of houses and damaged the facades of high-rise buildings. Hundreds of trees were broken in the cities of Mong Cai, Cam Pha and Halong. In the capital Hanoi and surrounding provinces, 17 power substations were damaged and over a thousand trees were torn out,” the source writes.

Earlier it was reported that a powerful typhoon was approaching Japan.

Heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding in the Turkish capital.

More than 400,000 people were evacuated in China’s Hainan Province due to Yagi, and a red alert was declared in the country.
