Sumar: More than 72,000 athletes are ready for the 2024 National School and Student Games

The 2024 edition of the National School and Student Games (JEEN) reached an unprecedented milestone in the history of student sports in the country, registering a record of participation that exceeded all expectations. In team sports, the competition will see the participation of 10,442 teams representing 219 municipalities in the country.

In total, 72,098 children and adolescents will compete representing their institutions (approximately 2,600 from all over the country), and if we add the technicians and delegates who will accompany each team, the total number of registered people rises to 88,529 people directly involved with the competition.

Once again, the National School and Student Games are the most important sporting event at the school level held in Paraguay, contributing to the sporting and cultural development and the exchange between young schoolchildren from all over Paraguay.

With the aim of strengthening bonds of friendship and the acceptance of different customs and social practices through sport, this year the JEEN stands out for its integration into the SUMAR Plan, being a strategic tool for the Action Plan Against Drug Abuse.

At the end of the registration period, the numbers speak for themselves. In team sports, the participation projection, both from athletes and educational institutions, is impressive:

Female School: 12,813 participants

Female Student: 16,335 participants

Male School: 18,213 participants

Male Student: 24,737 participants

This year, for the first time, the student category will reach national levels, which has been possible thanks to the significant budgetary effort of the National Secretariat of Sports with the support of the President of the Republic, Santiago Peña. This expansion reflects the importance that has been given to sport as a fundamental pillar of the SUMAR Plan.

The reach of the JEEN is equally impressive in geographical terms. Institutions from 219 municipalities across the country’s 17 departments have signed up, with a total of 5,194 teams in the school category and 5,228 teams in the student category.

The enthusiasm and commitment of several districts and departments has been remarkable. Some localities, such as San Lázaro (Concepcion) and Piribebuy (Cordillera), started their municipal phase competitions as early as July. Other localities, such as Caapucú and Mbujapey (Paraguarí), Curuguaty (Canindeyú), Itapúa Poty (Itapúa), and the supervisions 011 and 016 of the capital (Asuncion), have also started their competitions.

This anticipation and exemplary organization demonstrate the level of commitment and good management of educational communities throughout the country. Likewise, the JEEN 2024 are consolidating sport as a crucial tool in the comprehensive training of future generations of high-performance athletes.

The actions to be developed in a transversal manner with the Sumar Plan will also contribute to the promotion of the positive values ​​of sport as a valid alternative to drug abuse, promoting healthy lifestyles among children and adolescents.
