Sudan.. “Rapid Support” welcomes the Security Council’s call to stop the fighting during Ramadan

Sudan – The Rapid Support Forces, the paramilitary force in Sudan, yesterday, Saturday, welcomed the UN Security Council resolution calling for a cessation of hostilities in the country during the month of Ramadan.

On Friday, the UN Security Council called for a ceasefire in Sudan during the month of Ramadan, in a draft resolution submitted by Britain and supported by 14 countries, with Russia abstaining from voting. The resolution called on “all parties to the conflict to seek a sustainable solution to the conflict through dialogue.”

“Rapid Support” said in a statement: “We welcome the UN Security Council’s resolution, which called for a cessation of hostilities in Sudan during the holy month of Ramadan.”

The statement indicated that the “Rapid Support” response to the Security Council resolution “is consistent with its principled position of rejecting war.”

He explained, “While we welcome the proposed humanitarian truce, we declare our readiness for dialogue on agreed-upon monitoring mechanisms to ensure its implementation and the achievement of the required humanitarian goals.”

It is worth noting that the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed, on Friday, the call of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, to stop “hostilities” in the country during the month of Ramadan, and stipulated that the Rapid Support Forces implement their commitments to the Jeddah Agreement and withdraw from the states of Al-Jazira and Sinnar.

The Security Council resolution called for the removal of all obstacles to the arrival of humanitarian aid, calling on “all parties to fulfill their obligations in accordance with international law.”
