Succession of fires in Antananarivo: An alarming situation, around ten houses went up in smoke

The fire in Antohomadinika.

Antananarivo, the capital, is facing a worrying wave of fires that have occurred in the space of a few days. Over the past week, nine fires have been recorded in various neighborhoods such as Soarano, Antohomadinika, and most recently, Isotry. Yesterday, two new fires ravaged the neighborhoods of Isotry and Antohomadinika, raising concerns among residents and authorities.

The first fire broke out in Isotry, near a wood store, in the morning. The fire spread quickly, making it difficult to control for almost an hour. Despite the intervention of the firefighters, the lack of water hampered efforts to control the flames. Finally, the fire was extinguished, but the origin of this fire remains unclear.

The origin of these two fires remains uncertain. In Antohomadinika, witnesses reported an explosion before the flames started, but this has not yet been officially confirmed. An investigation has been opened to clarify the exact causes.

These repeated fires raise questions about their nature: are they accidental or due to structural problems? The hypotheses lean towards the dilapidated infrastructure and buildings that do not respect safety standards. During the dry season, such accidents are recurrent in the capital, leaving residents in an alternation of resilience and despair in the face of a situation that seems to repeat itself every year.

The capital must quickly find solutions to prevent such tragedies, in particular by improving access to water for interventions and by raising awareness among residents of the risks of fires.
