German research carried out recently concluded that the PFF2 or KN-95 type mask has a protective efficacy against Covid-19 of almost 100 percent, and that not even a distance of 3 meters can prevent infections if people are not wearing a mask.

Carried out by researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization, in Göttingen, Germany, the study points out that it is also important to correctly use a face mask to avoid infections with the Sars-CoV-2 virus.

On the other hand, highlights the study that will be published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, this can be avoided by using masks that fit very well on the face. Surgical masks or preferably PFF2, which drastically reduce the risk of contracting Covid-19.

To better understand the role of masks in combating the pandemic, researchers investigated, with an unprecedented level of detail, how much protection and under what conditions this piece is most effective and scientists were surprised by the results.

“We would not have thought that at a distance of several meters it would take so little time for an infectious dose to be absorbed from the breath of a virus carrier,” said Eberhard Bodenschatz, study co-author and director of the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization, in note.

At three meters, the infected person’s breath spreads through the air in a cone shape and the larger virus-rich particles fall to the ground after traveling a short distance.
