Study says sleeping can help you lose weight

A study carried out by researchers at King’s College London, with 42 participants, reveals that sleeping can help you lose weight, as long as it is accompanied by adequate nutrition.

The research participants were divided into two groups: one of them started to sleep an hour and a half more every night, while the other had to maintain their own sleeping habits. During the period studied, participants recorded everything they ate.

The result indicates that the desire to consume sugar was lower in those who slept more, with 10 grams less sugar, on average, recorded in the diet compared to people who maintained their sleeping habits.

Although the number of participants in this particular research was small, Haya Al Khatib, who led the study, adds an important parameter to its conclusion: “This strengthens the link between little time sleeping and the low quality of diets that has already been observed in other studies”. Another similar research was carried out by the University of Colorado in Boulder and it also linked the lack of quality sleep to poor diet, however, in most of the topics debated in the scientific community, there is still a need for more analysis on this connection.
