In Nasirnagar Upazila of Brahmanbaria, 9 students have been awarded for attending the public library in the month of February and reading books the most.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Muhammad Imranul Haque Bhuiyan handed over the award to the students on Tuesday (March 19) afternoon.

The students who got the award are, Sheikh Sumaiya and Aishi Sarkar jointly became the first in the girl category, Israt Jahan and Hafsa Begum jointly became the 2nd and Sumaiya Jahan became the 3rd. Amoy Sarkar 2nd, Soumak Roy 2nd, Ayan Sutradhar and Anirban Das 3rd jointly in boys category.

It is known that earlier there were not many readers in the upazila library. Although the dilapidated building had a wide variety of books, an average of one or two students would come here. In the week-long book fair to attract readers, the upazila executive officer announced that the person with the most attendance at the library would receive a prize. The announcement increased readership in Nasirnagar Public Library.

Upazila Education Officer Iqbal Miah, Secondary Education Officer Azharul Islam, Ashutosh High School Principal Abdur Rahim and others were present at the award ceremony on this occasion.

At that time, Muhammad Imranul Haque Bhuiyan said that there is no public library in many upazilas of Bangladesh. It is fortunate for Nasirnagar that the upazila has a public library. When I visited the library after joining the upazila, I found that the daily readership was very low. Later in the Amar Ekushey Book Fair organized in February, I announced that those who attend the most days and read the most books in the public library, will get a prize from me. Also the library is being renovated. As per the announcement, we awarded readers of the most books for the most number of days in the month of February.
