“Street justice has overtaken us”. Sarafov inspects a special command in the prosecutor’s office – 2024-02-11 19:32:12

The gathering momentum of the scandal with the murdered Martin Bojanov-Notariusa led to the personal intervention of the chief prosecutor Borislav Sarafov. On Friday, at the head of a group of accusers, he went personally to the Sofia District Prosecutor’s Office, where he appointed an audit. The head of the prosecution also insisted on the resignation of the district prosecutor Nevena Zartova. The reason is that a large part of the reports against Bojanov, who is considered a lobbyist in the judiciary, have sunk precisely there. Sarafov also hinted at the existence of a “spitz command” in the district prosecution – a group of prosecutors to whom a number of important investigations went, previously seized by their colleagues because they worked conscientiously on the cases.

Street justice and the stain on the toga

Bojanov was shot near his home in the capital’s Gorna Banya district. Only after the murder did the institutions begin to pay attention to his long-term activities, about which there was a lot of public information even before that. The murdered man was the hero of an investigation by the “Anti-Corruption Fund” organization from 2021. It became clear from it that Bojanov and his cronies wanted money from Ivayla Bakalova in order to release her husband Veselin Denkov, detained at the time on a case of the special prosecutor’s office.

Apart from that, two judges – Vladislava Tsarigradska and Tsviatko Lazarov – complained that Bojanov threatened them to decide cases concerning him as he wanted. However, he was not brought to justice until his death. Only after the murder did the city prosecutor’s office of Sofia announce that they were ready to press charges against him, but the shooting overtook them. The case against the Notary is about money laundering, obtained from real estate fraud and threats.

“Unfortunately, as you can see, sometimes street justice is faster and overtakes us. We are aware of our problems and have the ambition to clean up. If there is a stain on the prosecutor’s toga, we ourselves must show that we have an immune systemSarafov said on Friday.

He added that he also criticized the city prosecutor’s office, which is handling the case against Bojanov, because of their slow work.

The district prosecutor’s office will be revised because it is competent to investigate property fraud. The deceased is believed to have been involved in such for the past 20 years. No responsibility was sought against him.

The inspection should tell when a case was seized by a prosecutor with the decision of the head of the structure and was sent to a specialized department, explained Sarafov.

“Let’s call it (department b.r.) by its frank name – spitzkommando. When we see that a case is taken from a prosecutor who conscientiously and honestly worked on it, and it is assigned to a prosecutor from the command without arguments, we will follow the path, to see what the outcome of this investigation is. And ultimately, I am deeply convinced that criminal activity could be documented“, he also said.

A name appears in parentheses

Bojanov’s group acted similarly to that of former investigator Petyo Petrov-Euroto, involved in the “Eight Dwarfs” scandal. Both have had the influence to solve a justice problem, but also to create one to ask for more money.

Now Sarafov commented that with both groups, one name appeared “before parentheses” – that of former chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev. While he was at the head of the state prosecution against Petrov, there was no action, although data on racketeering on his part was available as early as 2020, again thanks to the Anti-Corruption Fund.

“I see one name that comes up in brackets with both groups and that’s the former attorney general, he’s connected to both circles, I’ve said it many timesSarafov said.

I will judge Bobby the Truth

A little later, Geshev reacted on social networks, calling Sarafov “Bobby the Truth”. He described him as a specialist in the short story and threatened to sue him.

“Another dirty political attack has just started against me. Apparently the political scum got scared of the citizens” wrote the former attorney general.

After he was dismissed from office, he founded a political party.

I didn’t know there was a private club

Sarafov added that he had never been to Bojanov’s private club in the capital’s “Geo Milev” district. It is said that many magistrates used to go to the establishment in question, which was only accessible with membership cards, to make deals in cases.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor’s Office paid attention to the establishment only a few days ago. Searches were carried out there. The club has been closed for more than a year. It is located ten minutes’ walk from the building of the former specialized prosecutor’s office.

The attorney general said that not only was he not at the club, he didn’t even know it existed. Last year, photos of Sarafov from the restaurant “Eight Dwarfs” together with Petyo Petrov-Euroto were published. Then the chief prosecutor explained that he was tricked there by Geshev to be photographed and compromised.

During Geshev’s time, the prosecutor’s office did not lift a finger on the “Eight Dwarfs” scandal. Years later, it became clear that the then-superintendent had been notified with a report of all violations in the case. He put in a resolution that he had read it and sent it to the archive.
