Last Thursday, at the Museum of Mexico City, the head of Government presented the anthem and referred to it as one of the 100 commitments he assumed, as well as part of the actions that during his administration have been carried out in favor of culture.

The Secretary of Culture, Claudia Curiel Icaza, was present at the ceremony, who explained that the process to prepare the anthem moved away from war themes, has transcriptions into Nahuatl and was inspired by texts by Miguel León Portilla, Alfredo López Austin, Fernando Alvarado Tezozómoc, Laurette Séjourné, Laura Bonaparte, among others.

He also shared that the preparation first had the collaboration of members of the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra, Horacio Franco, Georgina Derbez, Andrea Chamizo, Charles Daniels, Ricardo Gallardo de Tambuco and José María Serralde. They, he noted, had the idea of inviting a composer to lead the production.

In the stanzas that compose it, they allegory the city through a stone prickly pear, a divine cactus and a magic mirror. The name of the collective also appears, “El ombligo de la Luna”, with which the composer discussed the musical proposal. and the depth of the text:

Marcela Rodríguez said that to prepare the anthem she invited other composers and writers, who formed the aforementioned group: “Which would be like the pseudonym of the authorship of this anthem, I don’t want to attribute it only to me because, the truth is, I did want to ask for It helps and I would have liked this anthem to have been made for all of you and for all of Mexico City, but sometimes it is impossible to make a project like this.”

At the end of the event, the piece was performed by the Ensemble of Musicians of the Capital Orchestras, the soprano Angélica Alejandre and the tenor Alan Pingarrón, directed by maestro Raúl Delgado.

The following stanzas are the short version of the hymn:

Mexico City

Magic mirror,

you carry in your name

the navel of the Moon.

Your streets, snakes,

fire channels,

air, asphalt,

blood circulation,

perpetual motion.

Mexico City

cosmic fence,

mystical warrior,

lucid mirror,

horizontal precipice.

Turquoise, precious water,

stone prickly pear,

divine cactus

Nocturnal, latent dream,

blind seer, miracle city.

Mexico City,

cosmic fence,

mystical warrior,

lucid mirror,

horizontal precipice.

You encompass all the colors of the cosmos.

As long as the world lasts

The fame and glory of Mexico will not end.

As long as the world lasts

The fame and glory of Méshico will not end,

from Meshico, Tenochtitlán.

Mexico City”.
