In a lawsuit filed by Bolsonaro, Janones is accused of defamation for calling the former president a “jewel thief”
Minister Cármen Lúcia, of the STF (Federal Supreme Court), asked former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and federal deputy André Janones (Avante-MG) to decide whether they are interested in participating in a conciliation hearing in a lawsuit in which Janones is involved accused of slander.
The judge gave both parties 20 days to decide whether or not they want conciliation – an alternative suggested by the PGR (Office of the Attorney General). If either party is interested, a hearing will be held. Here is the complete ordinance (PDF – 135 kB).
Cármen Lúcia is the rapporteur in the case brought by Bolsonaro against Janones. The lawsuit was filed with the STF on April 17, 2023. Here is the full text (1.2 MB).
On April 5, Janones posted a batting average of Publication on social media he calls Bolsonaro “murderer” and saying it was a “inspiration” for the perpetrator of the Blumenau school massacre.
Also called the former president of “little jewel thief” And “bandit on the run”. On that date, the former president appeared before the PF (Federal Police) to make a statement as part of the investigation into jewels received from the government of Saudi Arabia.
The contents arrived illegally in Brazil and were detained at customs because they had not been declared to the Federal Revenue Agency.
While Jair Bolsonaro is not mentioned by name, the initial criminal complaint petition states this “there is no doubt” that Janones is referring to him and that is his intention “attack honor” of the former president. The publication was commented and shared by thousands of people on the social network.
The process also includes another publication by the deputy, dated March 31, in which he defines Bolsonaro as a “thief militiaman”. The posts are still published on the MP’s social network.
