The Stellantis Group will market its range of hydrogen-powered light commercial vehicles in Belgium starting from 2024. This was announced by Stefaan De Doncker, the group’s new head of light commercial vehicles in Belux, on the sidelines of the private fair organized by Stellantis in Groot- Bijgaarden.
Stellantis was the first major European manufacturer to develop hydrogen technology for a light commercial vehicle. This technology is currently available on the Peugeot Expert, Citroën Jumpy and Opel Vivaro (but not on the Fiat Scudo) and will be available on the group’s large vans later this year. It has a relatively large traction battery (10.5 kWh) which is not only used to start the vehicle, as with other fuel cell vehicles. The battery (supplied by Symbio) is used to power the traction battery and therefore acts as a range extender. Stellantis talks about 400 kilometers of autonomy, but the main advantage is that it only takes three minutes to refuel with hydrogen and that the useful load capacity of 1000 kg is maintained.
This hydrogen range was first offered to professional customers and in Germany, but Belgium is one of the countries that will be served this year and will directly benefit from the improvements to the second generation powertrain. The vehicles will be produced in Hordain (France), in a plant with a production capacity of 5,000 medium vans per year.
