“I condemn yesterday’s attack and every previous act of aggression that turned the Middle East into a land of blood, violence, the injustice of uprooting”

Today I would normally be turning to you to talk about the internal party elections that have been taking place since morning – a groundbreaking process in which for the first time you choose the SYRIZA MEP candidates. Unfortunately, international developments are beyond us.
I condemn yesterday’s attack without asterisks, along with every previous act of aggression that turned the Middle East into a land of blood, violence, injustice and uprooting.
The UN and the European Union must act now to safeguard regional security and ensure an immediate diplomatic resolution to the Gaza crisis.
I call on Israel to show restraint at this juncture, and I agree with the position of President Biden, who has declared that the US will not support an Israeli counterattack against Iran.
It is imperative that we have a lasting ceasefire:
a) With the return of all hostages
b) No further escalation
c) Upon resumption of negotiations
d) By significantly strengthening humanitarian support to the people of Gaza
e) With a permanent solution of an Israeli and a Palestinian state coexisting side by side.
First priority, human life. The protection of civilians, with the aim of a durable peace in the region.
