Australian indie game team DDmeow Games is developing the Roguelike action adventure “Cyber Paradise” at the Taipei Game Show for the first time today (25th), bringing the latest demo, allowing players to run risks as they reconstruct the lost memories of their lost dogs. , and along the way I learned about the past of passers-by at the bar.
DDmeow Games is jointly developed by Uly (co-writer) from Taiwan and Sze (director/programmer/artist/co-writer) from Hong Kong. The content is inspired by their family and their pet “Grandma Dog” and the gameplay is inspired by “Slay the Spire” and inspired by “Hollow Knight”, the level presents the dystopian vision of the world of “VA-11 Hall- TO”.
The story takes place in the near future. Humans are shocked to realize that the world is simulated by computers. If a creature dies, the evidence of its existence will be crushed like data and poured into the “Lost Kingdom”. Protagonist Hayley to “rebuild” the deceased dog Mini, used her hacking skills to break into the digital void and find fragments of Mini’s memory.
Players will move laterally through the 2D platform scene and gradually plan skill decks. Skill values will have different effects depending on the skill descriptions of previous and subsequent cards. If the sequence is organized correctly, the character’s skill values will change and be significantly improved.
As the character accumulates cards and becomes stronger, and reaches a certain level of “overclocking”, the enemies will become crazier, and at the same time the rarity of the loot will increase; enemies will also pick up cards dropped by the player and receive corresponding skill upgrade cards.
The cards are divided into green which strengthen body values, purple which have debuff effects, and orange which have passive skill attributes. Synthetic cards upon death are also an important feature, allowing players to quickly recover from failure.
Sze pointed out that when players overclock to 11 levels, the monsters will become extremely huge, and the orange cards on them (like Spin Dog) will be used to the extreme.
Weapons are divided into three types: guns, swords and axes (magic wands are expected to be added in the future). Each has its own special attack action. It inherits the combat from DDmeow’s acclaimed previous work “Toilet Horror”, with the vibration effect of attacking monsters and fast-paced COMBO activation. “Crazy” mode allows players to experience the thrill of slashing and killing multiple times.
The game’s pixel vision depicts the street atmosphere of every corner of the city, seaport, bar, etc., which deeply fascinates Cyberpunk fans. The memories, including the Mini dog, flash with colorful neon effects, but the current demo version features cutscenes. Some illustrations in the animation are missing due to lack of manpower.
Uly said the team invited new artist BlUEYESnorton to join them, bringing a new master vision and vertical painting. Players who come to the Taipei Game Show for a try until January 28 will have the opportunity to get new cards of the painted hacker warrior Hayley and the bar owner Samuel.
Visitors to the coffee shop each have their own unique backstory, waiting for players to interact with them and communicate about their lives. At the same time, they can connect memory fragments and solve the mystery of this dystopian world. When asked, is the dialogue design based on their relatives and friends? Uly said that the plot is not based on real events and that any similarities are purely coincidental.
“Digital Paradise” is scheduled to release on Steam in 2024. In addition to Chinese and English subtitles, the content will also be localized into Japanese by Active Gaming Media. The goal is to launch independent DLC in 2025 and access Nintendo. Switch.
Speaking about the Switch version in preparation, Sze smiled bitterly and said that the code is not the biggest obstacle in porting the platform, but Nintendo’s complicated pricing policy is the headache.
At this stage “Digital Paradise” offers a three-hour demo and launches a link party with 5 indie games. As soon as 7 memories are successfully collected, a dialogue about party preparation will appear on the “Special Day” in the Hacker Base Cafe; if when the player collects 13 memories, he can resurrect the puppy and throw a party.
