Mahem Darpa, This idea, popularized in science fiction novels such as Arthur C. Clarke’s “Earthlight” (1955), may become a reality one day thanks to funding by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
Magneto Hydrodynamic Explosive Munition (MAHEM) was announced in 2008.
Although no updates have occurred for some time, the page for MAHEM is still active on the DARPA site.
The program promises “the potential for higher efficiency, greater control, and the ability to generate and accurately time multiple jets and fragments from a single payload,” with what DARPA officials wrote as “killer precision.”
MAHEM could possibly be used for rockets, officials added.
The Tactical High Energy Laser (THEL) program was a joint project between the United States and Israel that ran from 1996 to 2005.
This program aims to develop and demonstrate high-powered lasers that can be used for tactical applications.
THEL is based on a deuterium fluoride laser that produces a high-powered laser beam. This laser is designed to be able to destroy various types of targets, including missiles, airplanes and mortars from space.
