Tran Tuan Kiet (Dong Thap) won stage 1 of the 2024 bicycle race to Dien Bien Phu with a time of 52 minutes and 24 seconds, temporarily holding the yellow and green jerseys.
On the afternoon of May 1, bicycle race “Returning to Dien Bien Phu 2024 People’s Army Newspaper Cup” officially kicked off.
After the flag raising ceremony, 70 riders from 10 racing teams competed in stage 1 with a route of 24 laps around Hoan Kiem Lake (40.8km). Hanoi’s weather is quite favorable, creating ideal conditions for racers to accelerate right from the start.

As expected, strong racing teams such as Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Thap, An Giang, Military Region 7… created a fierce dispute. With an impressive acceleration, Tran Tuan Kiet (Dong Thap) won stage 1 with a time of 52 minutes and 24 seconds, temporarily holding the yellow and green jerseys. The white shirt belongs to Vo Minh Gia Bao (Military Region 7).
Taking place from May 1 to 5, the bicycle race “Return to Dien Bien Phu 2024” has a route of more than 500km from Hanoi Capital to Dien Bien Phu City. Each race is a chapter recalling the heroic tradition, including 5 races: “Thang Long – thousand years of civilization” (race around Hoan Kiem Lake – Hanoi), “All troops launch” (Hanoi – Mai Chau, Hoa Binh), “Opening the way to the Northwest” (Van Ho, Son La – Son La City), “Entering Muong Thanh” (Son La City – Dien Bien Phu City), “Song of Victory” (live television Next, race around Dien Bien Phu City).
