The bus, in which about 20 people were traveling, was driving along the street along the river, but at the intersection, he took a sharp turn onto the bridge, where he hit a car, then crashed through the bridge barrier and plunged into the river. There he sank and only the roof was visible. Through it, the rescuers rescued people from the bus and took them to the shore in boats.
The bus belonged to the Taksi company, which helps provide public transport in St. Petersburg. Its vehicles operate on 11 lines in the city, TASS reported. The company was previously fined in the order of hundreds of thousands of rubles when it grossly violated the terms of the license, according to the court’s decision from January of this year.
RIA Novosti reported that the police detained the bus driver. His wife said the driver’s superiors forced him to take the morning shift even though he had worked 8 hours the day before, reported the AP agency. Among other things, the authorities check whether the regulations for the safe operation of public transport have been complied with.
