Squid Game actor jailed for eight months in sexual harassment case

South Korean actor O Pyeong-soo, who starred in the first season of streaming service Netflix’s hit sci-fi series ‘Squid Game,’ was sentenced to prison on Friday for sexual harassment. However, the sentence was suspended.

The Seongnam branch of the Suwon District Court sentenced Oh to eight months in prison and suspended it for two years, a court official said by telephone, according to the British news agency Reuters.

The court also directed the actor to undergo a sexual violence treatment program for 40 hours.

The 79-year-old actor, who was accused of two counts of sexual harassment in 2017, had denied the allegations.

On his way out of court, O told reporters that he plans to appeal the verdict. The actor has seven days to appeal or the decision will stand.

According to media reports, O was indicted in 2022. Earlier, the prosecution demanded a one-year prison sentence for him.

He was given the award for Best Supporting Actor in Television. He thus became the first South Korean to win the award.
