Spring awakening in the Austrian Open Air Museum Stübing – 2024-03-21 05:41:13

Traditions, crafts and a look into the past

Stübing near Graz (OTS) There is a touch of spring in the air when the Austrian Open Air Museum Stübing opens its doors for the new season on March 22, 2024. The idyllic setting of the museum is enriched in the early hours of the morning at 5 a.m. by a very special event: the traditional palm bush-tying in the historic smokehouse.

Easter, the Christian festival of the Resurrection, is ushered in with this symbolic tradition. In Austria, palm bushes made from a variety of plants are tied, artfully decorated and decorated with ribbons. Some are even attached to poles up to eight meters long to be carried during the ceremonial palm consecration. The blessed palm branches not only serve as festive decorations, but are also made into small crosses that are attached to doors as blessing signs or used in traditional customs to ward off evil.

The museum year 2024 not only promises a continuation of this fascinating tradition, but also offers numerous highlights. With an expanded range of courses, additional hands-on days and an extensive event and children’s program, this year offers unforgettable experiences for the whole family.

The starting shot for this year’s events will be on March 24th in the Museum Valley. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors of all ages can immerse themselves in the fascinating world of Easter customs at “Easter Lamb and Antlassei”. Whether it’s artistic baskets, decorated eggs, Easter bread or traditional egg racing – there’s a lot to discover, take part in and taste here.

It can get loud in the Museum Valley when the children are out and about while spinning their ratchets. If you feel hungry from rattling in the fresh air, the “Zum Göller” inn in the Museum Valley invites you to stop off. The joy isn’t just for the grown-ups, as there is a special children’s meal on this day.

A highlight of the museum year will be the annual exhibition Precious Clutter – Collected Stories from May 26th to October 31st, 2024. It presents ordinary everyday objects as museum treasures and tells stories about life, work, craftsmanship and social developments of bygone times. The exhibition not only offers a nostalgic look back, but also opens up new perspectives for the present through selected exhibits.
