Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Ermek Marzhikpayev criticized the performance of the men’s boxing team at the Olympics in Paris, Liter.kz reports.
“The men’s boxing team was represented in all weight categories. According to the commitments they made, they promised one gold, one silver and one bronze medal. In fact, the team won only one silver. For the second Games in a row, the athletes failed to win a single gold medal,” Ermek Marzhikpayev said in his speech.

The Minister noted that At the 1996 Olympics, our athletes won 22 medals: seven gold, seven silver and eight bronze.
“The national boxing team did not show the best results at these Olympics,” concluded the head of the Ministry of Sports.

To rectify the situation, Ermek Marzhikpayev instructed the accredited republican federations to develop a unified standard for training athletes and to ensure that advanced training courses for coaches and judges are conducted in accordance with modern methods.
“To make proposals on attracting foreign sports specialists, domestic coaches successfully working in a foreign country, as well as on new approaches introduced into the sports education system,” noted the Minister of Tourism and Sports.
