Government says nothing about sale – Nehammer to reverse sale of Vamed shares
Vienna (OTS/SK) – SPÖ federal party chairman Andreas Babler sharply criticizes the withdrawal of the state holding company ÖBAG from Vamed AG: “It is a scandal that the government is not saying a word about.” According to the report, Vamed is selling its rehabilitation division to the financial investor PAI Partners. 97 Vamed holdings in rehabilitation clinics, care facilities, therapy and rheumatism centers are affected, some of which are specifically for children. “The sale of the Vamed shares means that the rehabilitation facilities will be lost to private investors for good,” said the SPÖ leader, adding: “Something like this should be banned. There are areas in which no profit can be made. Of course, this includes care and the health care system,” the party leader told the SPÖ press service today, Friday. ****
Like Governor Doskozil, Babler is also demanding that Nehammer act and reverse the sale of the Vamed shares: “The black-green government has already caused great damage to our health system,” warns Babler, pointing to the long waiting times for important examinations. “If our health system is sold to private investors, a lot will go wrong in our country. The two-tier medical system makes care a question of income and privatization is advancing. Health and care cannot be made into a business!” says Babler. Nehammer must hold Finance Minister Brunner accountable and reverse the sale. The SPÖ is also demanding clarification through a parliamentary inquiry. “A few are making big money while jobs and our care are being destroyed,” warns the party leader.
In contrast to the government, the SPÖ is committed to rebuilding and securing the health system. “We want the legal right to a treatment appointment within 14 days and will anchor this appointment guarantee in law in Austria with a treatment security law. This requires heart and brain and a social democratic-led government. Only a strong SPÖ can prevent blue-black and thus the final destruction of our health system,” the SPÖ leader concluded. (End) lp
