SPÖ-Babler in Ottakring: Dialogue campaign with citizens and business people at Brunnenmarkt – 2024-05-12 09:25:49

SPÖ leader toured Ottakring with district leader Stefanie Lamp on the occasion of the EU election campaign

Vienna (OTS/SK) As part of the EU election campaign, SPÖ leader Andreas Babler used a dialogue campaign in Ottakring on Wednesday to talk to visitors and business people at the Brunnenmarkt. He was accompanied by district leader Stefanie Lamp and several district councilors from the 16th district. Babler emphasized that small businesses in particular, like those here at Brunnenmarkt, would benefit from a strong European social democracy. If the regional economy is increasingly being displaced by large international corporations, countermeasures must be taken, especially at the European level. “If a sausage stand owner pays more taxes than some large corporations, there is an imbalance. In order for that to change, we as social democrats must be the clear number one in the EU elections on June 9th. Because only a strong social democracy can guarantee an unconditional commitment against tax loopholes and profit shifting and for small and medium-sized companies,” said Babler. ****

In addition to the EU election campaign, the discussions primarily revolved around the fatal consequences of inflation. “The years-long refusal to adopt a price cap and to intervene in the market to regulate it was probably the biggest failure of this federal government. The population can now bear the consequences, including here at Brunnenmarkt. While customers can afford less and less, at the same time many standalones no longer know how long they can continue to run their business at the current costs,” says the SPÖ leader, summarizing his discussions.

District leader Lamp was satisfied after the dialogue campaign: “Today has once again shown what a wonderful and lively place the Brunnenmarkt is. Cohesion and togetherness are lived here every day, and that was noticeable today too.” Lamp describes the conversations as open and honest, sometimes tough on the matter, but consistently appreciative. “I think we were all able to gain a lot from today. Both for the upcoming elections and for our work in the district,” said Lamp. (Ending)
