Recently, it was reported that the K-561 Kazan submarine would stop in Cuba. This condition made the United States alert considering the ship’s stopover location was close to the city of Miami in Florida.
According to TheWarZone’s report, previously Cuba’s revolutionary armed forces ministry said that several Russian ships would dock in the capital. However, his party said that the stopover by the Russian ship was not intended as a threat to the surrounding area.

K-561 Kazan is a nuclear-powered submarine that is part of the Russian Navy. In terms of its status, this ship also has the status of being part of the Yasen-M class (Project 885).
Quoting the Moscow Times, Tuesday (11/6/2024), Kazan (K-561) became the first multi-role submarine to be modernized from the Yasen-M class after Severodvinsk. This ship began to be designed around 2009 and launched in July 2017.
Historically, Kazan was supposed to be handed over to the Russian Navy in 2018. However, the handover was delayed until 2019 for several reasons.
After that, the Kazan submarine officially sailed for its first sea trials in September 2019. However, the trials revealed several weaknesses of the ship, so it continued to be improved.
Looking at the specifications, the K-561 Kazan has a fairly long frame. This submarine is 139 meters long and 13 meters wide with an incoming draft of around 10 meters.
When launched over the sea, Kazan displaces approximately 13,800 tons. This figure will increase to almost 14,700 tons when diving below the surface.
