In fact, Oron is a reconnaissance aircraft variant based on the Gulfstream G550 Aerospace. However, this aircraft is then equipped with sensors, data collection devices and advanced defense systems, making it capable of detecting targets in various weather conditions.
Reporting from JPost, Monday (1/4/2024), the Research and Development Directorate of the Israeli Ministry of Defense (MAFAT) said the Oron reconnaissance aircraft can scan large areas with a very high information flow rate, which the military has never had in one data collection aircraft.
Additionally, the aircraft is unique in that it can operate within a wide range of Israel and the targets it tracks.
Oron is intended to monitor threats from countries that do not share a direct border with Israel, but are considered a direct threat to the country, such as Iraq and Yemen. Apart from that, it also monitors enemy countries located further away, especially Iran.
Oron is equipped with advanced sensors, including advanced radar systems, and artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Utilization of AI technology will enable the use of efficient and automated data processing systems. This will produce intelligence information that can be accessed directly.
With its various advantages, reconnaissance aircraft Oron has logged hundreds of flying hours during the war in Gaza. Oron was first announced in April 2021. This aircraft is also known as MARS2 or Multi-Mission Airborne Reconnaissance and Surveillance System by Elta. This aircraft is the result of cooperation between the Ministry of Defense, the Elta subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries, the Israeli Air Force, the Intelligence Corps, and the Navy.
