Zell am See/Kaprun (OTS) The Zell am See-Kaprun region will be the venue for the Spartan Race extreme obstacle course from September 6 to 8, 2024 and will be the first destination in Austria to host the European Championships of this extreme sports event. Around 4,500 international athletes are expected. At the exclusive press conference eight weeks before the event, the reigning European champion from South Tyrol, who was recently crowned Spartan Ultra World Champion in Morzine (FRA), the top Austrian athletes and the race director spoke about the special features of the toughest course in the world.

Spartan Race is an extreme obstacle course that requires endurance, strength, agility and coordination. The European Championship course in Zell am See-Kaprun is considered the toughest in the world, with 21 kilometers, 30 obstacles and 2000 meters of elevation. It leads from the Maiskogel car park in Kaprun, around the Klammsee, up to the Dreiwallnerhöhe on the Maiskogel and back again. The European Championship race takes place on Saturday, September 7th. In the start and finish area, spectators can not only cheer on the athletes, but also try out the test obstacles themselves or use the family facilities such as the Maisiflitzer, the bouncy castle or the children’s playground. Competitions with shorter distances are offered for amateur athletes, children and young people throughout the weekend from September 6th to 8th.
