South Korea has announced to hire workers from Bangladesh in the new sector. Park Young-sik, the Korean Ambassador to Dhaka, made this announcement on Tuesday (February 20). He also said that the application form for the Korean language test under the 11th Employment Permit System (EPS) program will start from Wednesday (February 21).
EPS is a Korean system for employing foreign workers. Through this, the Korean government allowed workers from 16 countries including Bangladesh to enter the country through Korean language test and skill level assessment.
Ambassador Park Young-sik said fishing and construction jobs have been added to the existing manufacturing and shipbuilding industries. Bocell Bangladesh will announce lottery for examination and application process. This time South Korea will take 30 thousand workers. The embassy has called for registration by early March to take the language test from March 11 to May.
According to the notification sent by the embassy, each applicant can only apply in one of the four sectors while applying. Apart from this candidates cannot apply for 12th EPS topic.
It is reported that the highest number of personnel have been sent to Korea since the EPS program began in 2008. 5 thousand 891 workers in 2022 and 4 thousand 804 workers went to Korea under EPS in 2023. Korea plans to bring in 165,000 unskilled foreign workers from 16 countries through the Employment Permit System (EPS) program.
Ambassador Park Yong-sik congratulated the Minister of Expatriates and Foreign Employment of the Government of Bangladesh and the Managing Director of Boessel for adding fisheries and construction systems to the Korean language test this year, saying that Boessel HRD is actively and creatively working with Korea on EPS.
The ambassador added that Korea has previously sent miners and nurses to Germany and construction workers to the Middle East. This provided an important source of investment for national projects, and as a result, Korea was able to become a prosperous country.
He said that remittances sent by Bangladeshi workers play an important role in the economy. Look at the successful example of Nepal to send more workers to Korea in the future. Nepali workers settled very well in Korean society. They work faithfully. That’s why they have a good reputation with employers. After returning to the country, the meetings of those workers who have returned abroad are quite active.
The Ambassador said that Bangladesh expects the overall industrial recovery to be prepared through the high technical skills of the workers, sincere work attitude and the revival of the returning workers.
Meanwhile, Boesel said in a circular that according to the demand of HRD Korea, 43 thousand 52 candidates will have the opportunity to participate in the Korean language test in two phases. 30 thousand 652 people (manufacturing industry-17 thousand 460, fishery-7 thousand 760 and construction-4 thousand 268 and shipbuilding-1 thousand 164) and 12 thousand 400 people in the lottery system ( manufacturing industry) will be selected. Candidates can apply at any stage. If one applies in two stages, his registration will be cancelled.
