A team’s core strength is the top order. However, it is a crime to expect big runs from three-four batsmen of Bangladesh’s top order. Day after day they are showing failure. The World Cup preparation match against India was no exception.
Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das and Nazmul Hossain Shanto returned to the dressing room after getting 10 runs on the team’s target of 183 runs. Meanwhile, Soumya and Shant returned empty handed. Soumya scored 0 from 2 balls and Shanto scored 0 from 6 balls. Lytton was badly bowled for 6 off 8 balls.
As of writing this report, after 5 overs, Bangladesh’s collection is 20 runs for 3 wickets.
Earlier, the bowlers did not do badly against India. Bangladesh restricted Rohit Sharma’s team to 182 runs for 5 wickets.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York. Sanju Samson, however, did not get off to a good start. Shariful Islam was the first to hit the head of the team’s 11 runs. Samson returned as 1 lbw in 6 balls.
Rohit also could not ride. He made 23 off 19 balls before falling victim to Mahmudullah. However, India put up a challenging score with the bat of Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Kumar and finally Hardik Pandya.
Pant retired voluntarily after scoring 53 runs off 32 balls with 4 fours and sixes. Suryakumar made 31 off 18 balls. In the end, Hardik played 23 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes in an unbeaten innings of 40 runs.
Sheikh Mehdi Hasan is the most successful Bangladeshi bowler. This offspinner took one wicket for 22 runs in 4 overs. Shariful one for 26 runs in 3.5 overs, Mahmudullah one for 16 runs in 2 overs, Tanveer Islam took one wicket for 29 runs in 2 overs.
Shakib was quite scratchy. He did not get a single wicket with 47 runs in 4 overs. Rishad gave 19 runs in 2 overs and Tanjim Hasan Shakib gave only 6 runs in 1.1 overs. Soumya Sarkar cost 11 in 1 over.
