Social elections: LCGB loses seat, OGBL retains absolute majority

After the social elections on March 12, the Ministry of Labor counted around 212,000 ballot papers. The results of the election were published in a press release on Saturday. There will be little change to the seating arrangement in the Chamber of Employees. The OGBL has 37 seats out of a total of 60 in the Chamber of Employees and thus retains the absolute majority in the CSL. Technically, the OGBL has gained two seats compared to 2019. However, this could be because since the last elections it has merged with the railway company FNCTTFEL, which won two seats in the 2019 social elections.

For the LCGB, however, the social election resulted in one fewer seat this year. According to counts from the Ministry of Labor, the LCGB has 17 seats – one less than in 2019. The seat went to the banking union ALEBA. They were able to improve their number of seats from four to five. The Syprolux (Syndicat Professionnel des Cheminots Luxembourgeois) gets one seat again.

Voter turnout slightly higher than in 2019

As far as voter turnout is concerned, it was 34.4 percent. After voter turnout fell in 2019, the unions campaigned hard to improve it again in 2024. That actually succeeded. 212,400 employees out of 617,000 cast their vote: That means an increase of 1.8 percentage points compared to 2019.
